Cricket Teas with the Archbishops

This comes from around the end of Season 3 when the Archbishops were resplendent in victory. This is probably a good moment to remember that William Temple, fast bowler for the Saints, once said, “Personally, I have always looked upon cricket as organised loafing.”

Cricket Teas with the Archbishops

Back in the pavilion after another
eleven run win, they proceed toward
the buffet; and as captain, Augustine
asks Thomas Cranmer for a grace.

He prays, ‘Trust the player who has
been broken like this sandwich.
Bless the player who has poured
themselves out like the tea urn.’

All the Archbishops say ‘Amen’ and
then they pass the cherry cake.
